The Foundation’s first targeted water project is in the mountainous Songa province of Southern Burundi. The project involves collecting water from a year-round spring into a large covered cistern and filtration system. The cistern will be connected to 3.5 kilometers of buried pipe that will be trenched and installed by hand. The gravity-fed system will have two intermediate cisterns to ensure constant supply and ten ‘fountains” along its length to provide water to the approximately 2000 people in the immediate area.
The Foundation is currently negotiating with the project team in Burundi to ensure costs and processes are in line. The negotiation process has been time consuming, but we making progress. Once started the project should take approximately three months to complete. We hope to see the project compelted in 2009.
