10-Miler Race Details
Start Time: 7:00am

Course:
The 10-miler course is the same as the 2009-2011 events with the start/finish line at the First Street bridge near RunTex Riverside. (USATF Certification: TX07033JF) The Course begins on the South First Street Bridge and runs north to Cesar Chavez and west on Cesar Chavez to Austin High. Runners bear left on to Stephen F. Austin High and then after a short hill, turn left onto Lake Austin Blvd. Rolling hills begin as runners turn north on Exposition and then left on Enfield road. The route then winds north on Pecos through beautiful homes in west Austin before turning left on Scenic Road. After a downhill section runners climb Scenic Drive to Kennelwood, then right on Rockmoor, downhill and right again on Cherry and returning on a rolling downhill to Scenic. Once racers return to Lake Austin Blvd, the return is mostly flat - net downhill - and follows the outbound course.Aid Stations: There will be 8 aid stations along the route.

5K Race Details

Course:
The mostly flat, fast, out-and-back course starts on the First Street bridge. Runners turn left on Cesar Chavez to the Mopac on-ramp and return.Aid Stations: There will be two aid stations on the 5K course.
Walkers: We welcome and encourage walkers to join us in the Run for the Water. Due to time restrictions and our goal to be a good neighbor along the 10-mile route, we encourage walkers to register and participate in the 5K.

Kids K Race Details

Course:
The course is out and back on the 1st Street Bridge to Cesar Chavez and City Hall.Extras: Kids will be led by Gilbert Tuhabonye during the event and are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes. The Kid's K is a tremendous amount of fun for both kids and parents. Parents with young children are welcome to accompany their kids along the route.Aid Stations: There will be 8 aid stations along the route.
Kids K Awards:
Every child participating in the Kid's K receives an award.
EVENTS:
LOCATION:
All races start/finish at the First Street Bridge.
START TIMES:
Each event starts at a different time. 10-miler racers start at 7 AM and 5K at 7:15 to minimize traffic concerns. The Kids K begins at 9:00AM.
GEAR:
Runners in the 10-miler and 5K will receive technical race shirts and Kids K runners will receive a cotton shirt. More Gazelle Foundation gear will be available for sale at our booth. All proceeds directly benefit the Foundation and its efforts in Burundi and central Texas.
WEATHER:
Sunrise on race day is 7:05 AM. Average weather at sunrise is 51 degrees with afternoon highs averaging 72 degrees. It was 52 degrees for the 2011 Run For The Water.
PARKING:
Ample parking is available on the street and in several parking garages. Parking will be available at One Texas Center (505 Barton Springs Rd), Palmer Events Center ($7.00), and the Austin American Statesman on Congress Ave. (The Statesman is still in the works but likely.)
STREET CLOSURES:
Cesar Chavez will be closed between Mopac and Guadalupe St. starting at 4:00 AM. Runners arriving from Mopac should use 5th St. for access. Intersections along the course will close on a rolling basis. The course will be serviced by APD officers and course marshals.
REGISTRATION:
Online entry is the only method of signing up to participate.
The Gazelle Foundation has partnered with Event Data Solutions to facilitate registration. We partner with them for their professional service and security of your information. EDS does not store nor share your information.
PACKET PICK UP:
Packet Pickup will be held at RunTex Riverside on Friday, October 26 between 10 AM and 7 PM and Saturday, October 27 between 9 AM and 6 PM.
Only out-of-town individuals will be allowed to pick up their packet on race morning from 5:30 AM - 6:45 AM for the 10-Miler and 5K. The Kids K will be open until 8:30 AM.
RACE DISCOUNTS:
You will be hard pressed to find any other 5K in downtown Austin offering a $19 fee. The only other 10-miler in town starts at $65 while we provide you four months at $39.
PAST RESULTS:
Results from 2007-2011 can be found at RunFar Racing Services. We'll post this year's as soon as it becomes available.
TAG TIMING:
The 10-miler and 5K will utilize chip timing. The Kids K is untimed.
RACE PHOTOGRAPHY:
Kreutz Photography will be at the race to take pictures of participants. Approximately two weeks after the race you will be able to view and order pictures at www.kreutzphotography.com and 2007 through 2011 Run for the Water pictures are up as well.
DISTANCE CHALLENGE:
The 2012 Run For The Water is race two of since in the Austin Distance Challenge. Run For The Water participants ARE NOT required to be part of the Distance Challenge to participate in our race. More information is available at www.austindistancechallenge.com.
RRCA:
Road Runners Club of America has named us the South Region 10 Mile Championship for 2012. The goal of the RRCA Championship Event Series is to shine a spotlight on well-run events and to award top performing runners in various categories for both men and women. For more information check the RRCA tab in the top right corner of your screen.
AWARDS:
Awards can be picked up at RunTex Riverside beginning Friday, November 2 during store hours.
PRIZE MONEY:
A total of $1,500 in prize money is available to the top four male female in both overall and masters categories. The breakdown is: Open - 1st: $250, 2nd: $125, 3rd: $75, 4th: $50; Masters - 1st: $100, 2nd: $75, 3rd: $50, 4th: $25. All money is based on gun time, NOT chip time.
Volunteers are needed throughout race week for packet stuffing,
packet pickup, water stops and general course cleanup.
